Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Henry L "Hank" Snyder

Henry Lincoln Snyder, 90, of Ten Sleep, WY passed away in his sleep at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center Thursday night, October 12, 2017.

Hank was born on July 10, 1927, the oldest of 4 children born to Carl and Muriel (Taylor) Snyder. He married Anella Currence in December, 1956.

Henry, or Hank as most people knew him, grew up and spent most of his life in Ten Sleep. His family moved to Ten Sleep when he was in high school. The Snyder family lived south of Ten Sleep by Spring Creek, so Hank stayed with Dutch and Mable Mills in order to be close to town so he could play basketball. The only times he did not live in the Ten Sleep/Worland area were when he served his country in the U.S. Army and when he moved his family to Casper for his son, Ralph and daughter Grace, who both had Down's Syndrome, to attend special schooling. When Ralph graduated from High School in Casper, Hank and Anella moved back to Ten Sleep and purchased the Circle S Motel and later added the Exxon gas station to better provide for and care for Ralph and Grace.

In addition to Ralph and Grace, they also had an older son, Alvin and a younger son Daniel. Alvin became a veterinarian and started his career in Worland, but soon became fully engaged in computers and software, retiring from the veterinary software company.

Dan became a mechanic where he worked in Ten Sleep and Worland areas, and later a computer educator/installer travelling all across the US before finally ending his career with as a wireless telephone/internet manager for TCT West. Dan's wife, Judy blessed the family with her assistance and care for Hank and Grace after Anella passed away from Leukemia in 2007.

In 1980 the family was reunited with Anella's daughter Cheryl Bjornsrud. In 2014 Cheri and her husband Bill moved to Ten Sleep to help care for Hank, whose health was starting to fail and Grace, who had just had a heart valve replacement surgery. Their constant presence, care, and daily visits with Hank have been a blessing to all. In 2016 Hank moved to Worland Healthcare where he received excellent care. The family is very grateful to each of the staff for their kindness toward Hank.

Hank and Anella spent their lives supporting organizations whose purpose was to enhance the lives of handicapped individuals. He worked at many types of jobs over the years from oilfield worker, meat cutter, school bus driver, mechanic, welder, army cook, ranch hand, fixer of anything, and of course dedicated father. He touched many lives through those years and careers. He loved to hunt, play pool, make sourdough pancakes, cook for FFA Camps, and help Ralph deliver his newspapers. He was well known in the community for his ability to fix anything and help anyone in need.

Henry was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Muriel Snyder, 2 sisters Florence (Ben) Bader and Francis (Homer) Geis.

He is survived by four children, Cheryl (Bill) Bjornsrud, Alvin Snyder, Grace Snyder-Nelson and Dan (Judy) Snyder; one sibling, Bob Snyder; seven grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 16 at the Mt. View Chapel in Ten Sleep. Visitation for family and friends will be held 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel in Worland. Burial will be in the Ten Sleep Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #44. Memorial donations may be made to Washakie County Special Olympics, O.W.L.
