Worland names Gentzler to Aquatic Board

WORLAND – During the regular meeting of the Worland City Council on Tuesday, Ward 1 Councilman Keith Gentzler was named to represent the city on the Worland Aquatic Center Joint Powers Board, after it was announced the city had come to an a agreement with the amended joint powers board.

"I know there's strong feelings [about the Aquatic Center], but we need a volunteer to be on the board," stated Mayor Jim Gill, before Gentzler volunteered for the position, a three-year term.

Previous aquatic board member Mandy Horath noted that, "[We] have to give the board help, or they won't get it any other way."

In other business before the council, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jenn Rasmussen request the closure of 7th Street, from Big Horn Avenue south to the alley, on Halloween evening for downtown trick or treating.

The council approved the request by vote.

The council heard the second reading of Ordinance 844, which would effectively raise water utility rates by 15 percent, and heard and approved the final reading of Ordinance 843, which amends the city code in regard to assessing automated court fees.

Public Works Director Brian Burky reported that the city is preparing to replace five fire hydrants around town, and that planning is underway for a new fountain to be installed in Pioneer Park, as part of the renovation project.

The council also voted to let public works restore parts of the city's old water plant building, adding office space and repairing the roof.

City Engineer Mike Donnell reported that bids for a project to replace water and sewer lines and pavement on 15th Street will be awarded Nov. 7.

The city also approved the purchase of flu shots for city employees at a cost of $25 per shot.
