Battle of the Buildings tonight in Worland

Worland teachers and staff compete in Olympic type events

WORLAND – Worland teachers and staff members will compete in the first Battle of the Buildings this evening from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Worland High School Gym. Community members are invited to cheer on their favorite teacher or school building.

Worland West Side and South Side physical education teacher Brianna Scholl stated that the competition will plot school building against school building. In other words each school building in the district will have a team with the addition of the central office and ERC (Educational Resource Center) combining together to form a team.

Scholl stated that there will be eight different events: speed skating, indoor shot put, hockey relay, football throw, curling, 3-point contest, team skiing and a bobsled relay.

The idea for the Battle of the Buildings started when Scholl saw that the school in Michigan where she did her student teaching had a similar event. Together she and Worland South Side Elementary School P.E. teacher Alissa Hughes brainstormed and came up with the events and brought it to an administration meeting where they were given the go ahead.

While the event is for fun and is free for the community, there will be donation jars available with all proceeds going to help Worland children in need. Scholl stated that the donations would help families in Worland who have children that may need helping paying for medical bills or new glasses and things like that.
