6th annual men's CatchAFire event Friday and Saturday

WORLAND – The sixth annual men’s CatchAFire event is Friday from 5:30 – 9:15 p.m. at the Worland Middle School Auditorium and Saturday, for those desiring a deeper walk with the Lord, from 8 – 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 1101 Big Horn Ave., in Worland. The event is open to all men age 16 and above.

The CatchAFire event is a men’s only evangelical event to help men with their relationship with Christ and their families. “CatchAFire is an event that was started by some men wanting to see the men of the Big Horn Basin come to a right relationship with Christ,” CatchAFire team member James Scott said. “It’s an evangelical event, but what we have found is, we find a lot of guys who say that they were saved back when they were 10 or 20 or whatever it might be, but they’ve fallen off a little bit. They have kind of gotten on the wrong path, onto that worldly path that most of us have been on or are on and so what we have found is, it’s been another way to draw those men back onto the right road with Christ. So not only is it evangelical it is also a pretty good event as far as encouraging men’s walk with the Lord as well,” he added.

Scott stated that the theme for the event this year is “set us free” with CatchAFire team member Greg Bradshaw quoting Galatians 5:1 “For freedom, Christ has set us free.” Bradshaw went on to explain that many men find themselves addicted to sin in one form or another, be it alcohol, pornography or any other vice that controls them. He stated the he himself has dealt with his own demons and that only through Christ was he set free from them but the pull to slip is always there. That’s why the CatchAFire event is so important, so men can come together to lean on each other and hold each other accountable.

“I think a lot of men struggle in a lot of areas. Really the only person that can set you free from those sins, from those demons is the Lord Jesus Christ. We can mask it, we can cover it up, we can put something on top of this sin to cover that sin but ultimately if we want to be freed from those sins we have to go through Christ and that’s what he died for. He died to set each one of us free and we want to convey that to all men,” Scott said.

“There are just so many other things that are there, that are almost becoming a norm in America, the chaos that has been caused by the opioid distress and just so many things that the devil uses to keep us away from where Jesus wants us and it is destroying our families. As men, God’s given us the task of being the head of our families and we’ve kind of failed at that in a lot of places,” Bradshaw said.

At the end of the event on Friday evening there will be a drawing for 25 – 30 door prizes. “We have an $800 tire package, we have a gun and we have a pig that we are going to give away in two halves. Just numerous quality door prizes that any guy is going to want to come and win something like that. But even more importantly than the door prizes there is going to be somebody who comes that’s going to change their eternity. It’s going to change their address for when they die and that’s what we are about,” Scott said.

There will also be a tribute to Ed Lujan, a CatchAFire team member who passed away in 2017, at the beginning of the event.

“We are excited and think that God’s going to do something amazing through the sixth annual. If you’ve never been you are darn sure missing out on a great event. We don’t get a lot of events like this in our communities. All men are welcome and be sure to bring a friend,” Scott stated. He added that Red Arrow Barbecue will be doing the food this year and that the CatchAFire band led by Jeff Garza will be performing the music.
