WORLAND – Monday, Feb. 12, was the first day of the Worland Senior Center’s annual tax assistance.
Sherry Stottler has been in charge of this event for two years.
“The taxes here at the senior center have been getting done for a lot of years,” Stottler said. “I used to walk by and see it. Then, one day, someone asked if I would help. And so I did help, then, last year, a few people decided that they didn’t want to do it. And I had thought ‘we just have to have taxes done!’ We do almost 150 each year. I knew somebody has to do it, so I stepped up.”
The senior center assistance program can help with nearly everyone’s taxes.
“There will be people with very complicated taxes, and they’re what’s called ‘out-of-scope’. And we’re able to tell them on the spot that we can’t do them,” Stottler explained. “But we can do young people’s taxes, and people with children. It’s not just for seniors. There’s no monetary limit, either. You can make a lot of money and we can still do your taxes. It’s not low-income. It’s not limited to low-income or age.”
The tax assistance will go through until April 11, every Monday and Wednesday.
Those interested must call the senior center to make an appointment.
