Funeral services for Gary Havens, 69 year old Buffalo resident who passed away early Tuesday morning at his home in Buffalo will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Buffalo with Father Doug Wasinger officiating. Interment will be in the Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with graveside services to follow the funeral. Donations in Gary's memory may be made to the Bread of Life Food Pantry or the Buffalo Boy's and Girl's Club in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. Gary Joe Havens was born on October 28, 1948 in Thermopolis, Wyoming to George J. and Harriet L. Havens. He grew up and went to school in Worland, Wyoming and graduated from Worland High School with the class of 1966. He then attended Eastern Montana College where he received a B.S. in Business Administration in 1972. He was married on December 16, 1967 in Worland to Patricia Wall and they made their home in Billings until Gary's graduation. In 1972 he took a banking position in Powell, Wyoming and in 1975 he took a job as vice president of First Wyoming Bank in Meeteetse, Wyoming. He completed a Masters in Banking at the Colorado School of Banking in Boulder, Colorado in 1980. In 1982 he earned the job as President of the First Wyoming Bank in Sheridan where he worked for 9 years. In 1991 he became President of Key Bank in Casper. Gary held various executive banking positions with Key Bank in Denver, Cheyenne and Casper. Key Bank was purchased by Community First Bank in the late 1990's. Gary left Community First Bank and he and Pat moved to Buffalo where he became the CEO of the Bank of Buffalo in 2002. He retired in 2010 and he and Pat continued living in Buffalo. The love of his life passed away in June of 2017 and Gary continued living in Buffalo until his death.
He was a member of the Elk's Lodge 520 in Sheridan, he was a Rotarian, Kiwanian, a member of the Jaycee's and the Lion's Club. He was on the Casper College Foundation Board, the Wyoming Housing Network Board, and was a member of the Wyoming Bankers Association Board of Directors. Gary was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and volunteered at numerous organizations including delivering Meals on Wheels and served on many other committees, taking pride in the communities in which he lived. Gary was a leader, husband, father and grandfather. He was so proud of his kids and grandchildren. In Gary's free time he enjoyed spending time with family, fly fishing, camping and the outdoors in the Big Horn Mountains.
He is survived by; one son Gavin Havens and his wife Pam of Sheridan; one daughter Brittany Winges and her husband Jason of Cheyenne; one brother Randy Havens and his wife Diane of Montrose, Colorado; four grandchildren, Treyton and Madison Havens of Sheridan and Hayden and Brooklyn Winges of Cheyenne; three nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
