Rice takes girls overall award during Heavy Metal Classic
WORLAND - In the third annual Heavy Metal Classic powerlifting competition held at Worland High School last weekend, WHS lifter Alejandra Rice was awarded the overall champion in the girls division.
Between the squat, bench press and deadlift, Rice lifted a combined 745 pounds (squat - 280 pounds, bench press - 150 pounds, deadlift – 315) and along with being named the overall champion, won her 198-pound weight class as well.
Rice scored a 302 by the Wilks formula, which compares the strength of lifters in different weight classes. Riverton's Julia Masson took second overall with a 279 score. Last year Masson won best overall champion by edging out Rice by one, 203 to 202.
Along with Rice, WHS other lifters were, competing in the girls division, Rhiannon Kozlowski and competing in the boys division Ike Hines, Zack Padilla and Victor Olvera.
Kozlowski, lifting in the girls 148-pound weight class, lifted 150 pounds in the squat, 105 in the bench press and 175 in the deadlift, for a combined total of 430 and finished third.
Hines, competing in the boys 148-pound weight class, lifted 155 pounds in the squat, 95 in the bench press and 245 in the deadlift, for a combined total of 495.
Padilla, competing in the boys 148-pound weight class, lifted 285 pounds in the squat, 155 in the bench press and 375 in the deadlift, for a combined total of 815 to win the weight class.
Olvera, competing in the boys 148-pound weight class, lifted 200 pounds in the squat, 150 in the bench press and 355 in the deadlift, for a combined total of 705 and finished third.
Cody's Matthew Skinner was named the overall boys champion, scoring a 323 on the Wilks.
