WORLAND – A tradition for most families on Easter is to partake in a local egg hunt and this year there are three local Easter egg hunts.
The first one is on Saturday at the Worland Aquatic Center. The center holds the hunt at 1 p.m. for children ages 3 to 13. The event is free to the public, children and adults.
According to Aquatic Center Manager David Villa, the egg hunts will run from 1-4 p.m. Weather permitting, Villa said that the youngest age group, ages 3 to 6, will be on the water playground on the east side of the building to hunt for eggs, rather than indoors in the pools like their older peers.
There will be prizes for each age group as well, he said.
After the hunt, there will be free swim for everyone in the pools. There is about $200 to $300 worth of candy for this event, which will be handed out to children as they leave the center.
The other Worland hunt will be at Newell Sargent Park on Easter Sunday at 1 p.m. hosted by the American Legion. Expecting an outcome of about 300 kids, this hunt started back into the 1950s, according to Legion member Terry Bankert. Bankert said there was about 160 pounds of candy bought for the event.
Bankert said that if the weather isn’t cooperative, they will find an alternate location.
The hunt is put on by the Worland Post 44 American Legion. The ages are from birth to 10 years old. The different age groups include birth to 4 years old, 5 to 7 and 8 to 10. They will each be happening at the three different ball parks that the park has to offer.
The other hunt is sponsored by the Ten Sleep/Hyattville Lions Club on Sunday at Ten Sleep’s football field. The hunt starts at 1 p.m. Doug Smith estimates a turnout of about 150 children.
The kids will be split up into four age groups, including birth to 3, 4 to 6, 7 to 9, and 10 to 12.
About 90 pounds of candy have been purchased for the hunt.
Other giveaway prizes include stuffed animals and three bicycles, according to age groups. In addition, there will be five silver dollars per age group given away.
The Ten Sleep Saloon also donates ice cream sandwiches, according to Smith.
According to the National Weather Service office in Riverton, the weather for Easter Sunday has a 20 percent chance of snow, with a high of 43 degrees.
