Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
WORLAND – While many people are just starting to plan their gardens, the Worland farmers market committee is planning on making this year’s farmers market bigger and better than ever before.
“We’ve had our first meeting and we have picked our themes for the whole summer,” Farmers Market Director Dee Murray said. She added that the prices for tables will be the same as last year and that she has heard from many people that the prices for spots are the cheapest around. “The farmers market is not here for us to make money, but for the vendors to make money.”
Murray stated that she has high hopes for the different themes each Saturday will have and that due to those high hopes she hopes to be able to, with permission from the city of Worland, expand the market as the market is continuing to grow each year. “I put out tables because I want people to sit and converse, have a cup of coffee and mingle around. Then we also have our themes. Last year in particular, the ‘all about gardening’ theme, that brought in a lot of people and I have four of them together, so it’s the Extension part, Caitlyn Youngquist, nutrition is there and usually the community garden. So with four different sites in ‘all about gardening’ and it bringing in a lot of people, we don’t have enough room to do it all. I’m hoping that the city will let us expand our market, I’ve already spoken to the various businesses and we’ve worked out one particular question, so we don’t have any problems with the other businesses that are there,” Murray said.
Murray also stated that she is looking for new, out-of-the-box ideas and that if anyone has ideas on ways to improve the market, they are welcome to reach out to her at 431-4845 or come to the next farmers market meeting which is May 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Washakie County Public Health meeting room.
“If there is no answer, I’m probably working in my own garden, so please leave a message,” she said.
