No letdown match for the No. 1 Warriors, cruise past Pinedale 4-0

PINEDALE - There was not letdown match, just another dominant win for the Worland Warriors soccer team Saturday at Pinedale High School as they rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Wranglers.

The No. 1 Warriors (11-1) came out with the same laser focus as they did in their win against No. 3 Star Valley the night before.

WHS boys soccer coach Ron Overcast said, "We came out Saturday with a lot of energy. We played well, we played hard and took care of business. It's a tough road trip and the guys handled it well and I'm really proud how these guys performed these past two weeks.

"I really liked our effort and the business-like approach we took. After that Star Valley game, we could have gone up there and gone through the motions and not played hard. They went out there and played hard and improved. That's the key and been the same way all season long, we try to take this season one day at a time and one game at a time."

Freshman Rudy Sanford led the way with two goals and sophomores Daniel Weyrich and Wyatt Wyman stuck in the other two goals for the Warriors.

The goal distribution showed once again how dynamic and hydra-esque this Worland attack is.

"That's one thing that makes our team tough to play, we have five or six guys that can score. We don't have those gaudy numbers that some teams have where one guy has 20 goals. We have a lot of people that can score and we try to use that to our advantage by relying on whoever is hot that day," said Overcast.

The Warriors depth had another strong showing as reserve players answered the call again giving Overcast and his staff even more confidence in their bench, especially with the 3A State tournament only 16 days away.

"It gives us a lot more confidence and we've talked about building depth all year long. It paid off this past road trip and some of those guys earned themselves more playing time. We've talked about having a competitive nature in practice and how you're competing for your spot and we've had guys with little varsity experience set up for us," said Overcast.

The Warriors will have an away and home match this week. Thursday they travel to Douglas at 6 p.m. and on Friday they host Rawlins for senior night.

"Nothing really changes. It's about improving every day and we have to continue to work hard in practice. This is good practice for state because you have to do this three days in a row. There are no excuses and we have to go out there and take care of business," said Overcast about the Warriors practice plans this week.

The Warrior seniors will be honored before their 6 p.m. match against Rawlins on Friday.
