Simmons picks up first tournament win in 2018

WORLAND - After finishing in the top three for the first handful of tournaments, Worland youth golfer Karsten Simmons picked up his first win of the season in the 15-19 age division at the Northern Colorado Junior Open in Windsor, Colo., on May 5 and 6.

The Junior Open was another leg on of the Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tour for Simmons. Winning the tournament he shot five-under-par, 68 in the first round 69 in the second for a 137 total.

"The course was a difficult one and to play so well was awesome. Karsten's hard work and practice routine is really paying off. It is so exciting to watch Karsten grow with the game," said Karsten's father Randy Simmons.

For the tournament, Simmons had nine birdies and four bogies and finished two strokes ahead of the second-place finisher Peter Grossenbacher.

Next up for Simmons is the Junior Golf Alliance Colorado tournament at the Pelican Lakes Golf and Country Club in Windsor, Colo., starting today and ending tomorrow.
