WHS spring golf wrap-up

WORLAND - The Worland High School boys and girls golf teams and Worland Middle school club team finished their spring season on May 11 in Thermopolis, and overall it was a promising season that built strong momentum for the coming fall season.

"It was a great season overall, with 8 top 10s for the high school teams. Nine of our students at the high school level had PR's [personal records]. Karsten [Simmons] was able to notch a couple more victories. The area we improved the most was on short game and course management. Everyone on the team has been playing a ton since the season ended, and are looking forward to a title chase in the fall," said WHS golf coach Chad Rose.

Looking back on the season there were plenty of milestones achieved for each of the teams, the Warriors and Lady Warriors swept every match in their dual with Riverton at Green Hills Golf Course in Worland on April 19.

At the Powell Invitational on April 27, Warriors Jose Galarza (83, tied for eighth) and Logan Foote (89) led the Warriors, while Robyn Horath (109) and Ashley Schriber (116) paced the Lady Warriors. For the WMS club team, Karston Simmons shot a 75 and tied for first while teammates Landen Gilmore and Jackson Dunham both shot 88 and tied for fifth.

At the Cody Invitational on May 4, Galarza had a top three finish coming in third after shooting an 80 for the tournament and as a team the Warriors finished third out of seven teams. For the Lady Warriors, Annalise Newell shot a 111 and tied for 10th.

For Worland's final meet of the season, the Warriors had two golfers finish in the top five. Foote shot an 83 and came in third and Galarza tied for fifth, shooting an 87. The Lady Warriors also had two top five finishers, Ashley Schriber shot 102 and came in third and Rachael Carver was fifth shooting a 105.

For the WMS club team, all three golfers finished in the top five. Gilmore was second with a 93, Dunham tied for third with a 95 and Gavin McEndree finished fifth shooting a 105.

"The Thermopolis meet was rain-soaked. Logan Foote used the soft conditions to fire at some pins and finish in third place with an 83. Jose Galarza gutted out an 87. Ashley Schriber and Rachael Carver also finished in the top 10 with second- and third-place finishes, respectively. Landen and Jackson proved why they are two of the best seventh graders in Wyoming by finishing in second and third place," said Rose.

All in all the spring season for the Warriors, Lady Warriors and WMS club team was productive and one that Rose hopes will lead to a promising fall season.
