John McLellan

John passed away June 22, 2018 at the Star Valley Ranch in Thayne, WY. John was born June 3, 1922 in Redstone, NH to Charles and Grace McLellan. After graduation John enlisted in the army, serving in the 10th Mountain Division Ski Troops in WWII, during which he saw combat in the Aleutian Islands and in Italy where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. After a long convalescence John attended the University of Wyoming where he coached the Ski Team and graduated in 1950 with a BS in Geology.

While at UW he met and married the love of his life, Margene Johnson. The newly-wed couple moved to Worland, WY where John worked as a geologist for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service (SCS), was Exalted

Ruler of the Elks Lodge, and was the founder, part owner and ski instructor for the Meadowlark Ski Area. His growing family moved to Casper in 1964 where he continued with the SCS until 1979 when he became an independent consulting geologist. After retirement John and Margene split their time between Star Valley Ranch, WY and Sun City, AZ. John enjoyed skiing into his 90's, golfing, gardening, hunting, fishing and being with his family.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Stuart and Paul, and sister Natalie. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years; children Glenn McLellan, Linda (Steve) Smith, Karen (Jerry) Dalton, and Barry (Ginny) McLellan; grandchildren Shawnna Murphy and Eric Rice; and sister Grace Cox.
