Third annual Battle of the Bands Friday

WORLAND — The third annual Battle of the Bands hosted by Worland Community Center Complex (WCCC) and Rumors Sports Bar and Grill kicks off Friday night at 6 p.m. with Ten Sleep singer Kurt Steinke.

Sheryl Ley, WCCC marketing director, said there are four new acts vying for first-place prize of $1,000 this year with a total of six musical acts competing.

Steinke will be performing Johnny Cash songs and genre

Others performing and competing Friday night are:

•Deadbird out of Sheridan. They list their music genre as punk, funk and rock.

•The Casper metalcore band From Ash to Stone.

•The rock band Kings of November, also out of Casper.

•Worland band Rattlesnake Ridge takes the stage at 10 p.m. and hopes third time is the charm as they have come in second place the past two years.

Rattlesnake Ridge is Breck Buer and Bill Pennington on guitar and bass, Brad St Clair drums and Ed Muller, rhythm guitar.

Rattlesnake Ridge plays a variety of country and classic rock, from Alan Jackson to ZZ Top.

•Greybull/Powell band Day x Day, the inaugural Battle of the Bands winner. They list their music genre as metal core. Band members, as listed on their Facebook page, are Julius Garay, Jordan Jackson, Oscar Garay, Zane Miller and Kris Hernandez.

There will be five to six judges, Ley said.

In selecting the bands, Ley said, bands can have their own CDs but must not have signed with a music producer.

The bands come for the chance to win the prize money — $1,000 for first, $500 for second and $250 for third.

There is no admission to come and listen to the bands, who will be performing in the Rumors parking lot. There will be an outdoor barbecue and music listeners can also venture inside Rumors and order off the menu as well, Ley said.

The parking lot will have the stage, a dance floor and some chairs, but Ley said people are encouraged to bring comfortable lawn chairs and sit back, relax and enjoy the music.

Ley said moving the Battle of the Bands from a day event at the community center to an evening event at Rumors proved to be successful. It is more of an adult entertainment event than a family event, she noted, adding that besides the food and music there was not much for young children to do.

She said parking is available along Big Horn Avenue and on 15th Street.
