No. 5 Lady Warriors ready for Buffalo and Cody road tests

WORLAND - The Worland High School volleyball team is on the road today and tomorrow to take on the Buffalo Lady Bison and Cody Fillies, respectfully. The Lady Bison have always been a tough rival of the Lady Warriors and the Fillies are enjoying a nice run in their first season in 4A and are currently ranked fourth in the WyoPreps coach's and media volleyball poll

Last Saturday, in Rawlins, the Lady Warriors pushed the No. 2-ranked Lady Outlaws to four games, losing 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 26-24, 25-23). Coming so close to pulling off the upset on the Lady Outlaws home court was both frustrating and encouraging for the Lady Warriors. In one hand it was a missed opportunity but in the other, it shows they're not far off from being a state title contender.

"We had the position to beat Rawlins on their home court. We matched them in talent but just didn't have the energy to finish them off. We played tired and our girls were really tired. I reminded them at regionals we could see the same situation but with a chance to go to state on the line," said WHS volleyball coach Brittany Miller.

"That energy has to come within, you have to find it to finish off good teams like Rawlins. Coming off Lander things are clicking more and we're developing chemistry. That experience is huge and things are starting to come easier and easier with each game."

Today's match at Buffalo and tomorrow's at Cody, give the Lady Warriors an opportunity to tinker with their rotation more since neither match will have an impact on the conference standings.

"Since Buffalo isn't on our side of the conference and Cody is in 4A we chose that we're going to focus on things we need to get better at. We've been focusing on Worland volleyball and where we need to improve," said Miller. "We're learning a new lineup, unfortunately, some of the team has a funeral on Friday and won't be there on Friday. So we're learning a new rotation for Friday but if we do things right on our side of the net as far as serving and passing, we'll be OK."

Added Miller about Cody, "Cody has Paige Powell, she's Division I caliber and she's going to score points. So we have to score two more points than her as a team. Cody's tough this year and they have weapons but if we serve and pass well we're going to do fine."

Today's match in Buffalo begins at 6 p.m. and tomorrow's match in Cody is also at 6 p.m.
