WORLAND – Banner Health Washakie Medical Center's mammogram, manicure and massage event Thursday was deemed a success by medical center staff with several community members attending the event.
Banner Health Washakie Medical Center chief nursing officer LeGay Naseath stated, "We had 46 people attend the event which is fantastic." She added that the medical center will try to make it an annual event.
The event was offered to encourage women to have mammograms, to educate women on the proper way to do self-breast exams, to teach women the importance of early detection, and to give event goers a day of pampering.
"Early detection of breast cancer greatly improves a patient's survivability. If we detect it early we can treat it early and that's why we do mammograms and why mammograms are so important. We recommend them to be done for women over 40 years old," Naseath said.
Event goers were able to have hand massages, back massages and a manicure in one room and receive goodie bags, information about self-breast exams and information on how to qualify for free breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening and colorectal cancer screenings from Wyoming Cancer Resource Services program manager Val Walsh-Haines in another room.
Naseath stated that she felt it was fantastic that Walsh-Haines was able attend and that her work is greatly appreciated.
