Margaret Helen Kline Allen, 97, passed away October 30, 2018 at the Worland Healthcare & Rehab Center. Margaret was born on the home farm in Glidden, Iowa on October 10, 1921 to William and Lourene Kline. She attended Glidden Consolidated Schools and graduated in 1939 as Salutatorian of her class.
She played the clarinet in the school band. She was a 4-H member, went to the State Fair in Des Moines with her demonstration team.
She attended Simpson College Indianola, Iowa for 2 ½ years where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
She worked at Bankers Life Insurance Company in Des Moines, Iowa as a secretary in the Actuarial Department. During the war, she worked for TWA (Transcontinental & Western Airlines) as a teletype operator at La Guardia Field in New York City.
Margaret married Charles Edwin Allen, her high school sweetheart, on August 30, 1946 at the family farm in Glidden, Iowa. After getting married, they moved to Laramie, Wyoming for her husband's new job at the University of Wyoming. Her daughter, Diane was born in 1947.
The family then moved to Corvallis, Oregon in 1949 where her husband worked in the seed lab at Oregon State. Her son, William (Bill) was born in 1951.
The family then moved to Ames, Iowa so her husband could continue his graduate work at Iowa State.
They returned to Corvallis, Oregon for one year and then back to Laramie, Wyoming in 1954 where her husband worked in the Extension Office at the University of Wyoming. Margaret continued her education at the University graduating in Accounting in 1961.
The family moved to Worland, Wyoming where she worked for Blaney's Mayflower Moving Company and then in the office of Dr. Horsley.
In 1966, the family had an opportunity to travel when Chuck got a job with the University of Wyoming under the USAID program in Somalia, East Africa for 4 years. Margaret and Chuck traveled to many different countries during this time.
When they returned to the states, they lived in Iowa for a short time before returning to Worland where Margaret has remained the rest of her life.
Margaret is preceded in death by her son, William Arthur Allen, 2003, his wife Susan 2009, and her husband, Charles (Chuck) Edwin Allen, May 2, 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Best, son-in-law Jerry Best, grandson, Josh Allen (his daughter, Brianna), granddaughter, Alexandra Zyla (husband Les), and granddaughter, Kate Johnson (her son, Heber, her daughter, Angelyna), her sister, Dorothy Walters of Des Moines, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful people at Worland Healthcare & Rehab Center for the care and friendships Margaret received over the years.
A graveside service will be held at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 3:00pm. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Worland and Circle J Ranch. Arrangements have been entrusted to Veile Mortuary.
