Ople Marie Jorgensen was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10, 2018. Ople was born October 15, 1919 to Emanuel and Leta (Stuck) Lamke on the homestead in Wasta, SD. She was raised on the farm along with her sister and three brothers. Ople attended country school until reaching high school when she moved into Rapid City, SD to complete her schooling.
Ople married Kenneth Duncan (killed in World War II) on October 26, 1941 in New Underwood, SD. She graduated from the National School of Business in 1948. While attending the National School of Business she met and married Walter Jorgensen on August 22, 1948 in Rapid City, SD.
Ople and Walter and their three children moved to Worland in 1953. Ople and Walter enjoyed riding horses and rode several times a week. Her family enjoyed the outdoors and spent many weekends camping and exploring the Wyoming mountains. Ople's life was centered around her children, family and friends, and her church.
She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Worland Community. Ople was secretary for Zion Lutheran Church for more than 30 years. She and Walter were Zion youth sponsors for over 15 years and she was an active member of Zion Women's Guild and Mission Board. Ople served on the Northwest Chapter of Child Evangelism board for many years and was an active member of the Gideons.
Ople was a Girl Scout Leader for more than 20 years and served on the Wyoming Girl Scout Council. She was an active member of the After 5 Club and she and Walter organized the Worland Octoberfest for many years.
Ople was preceded in death by husbands (Kenneth and Walter), both parents, sister Ruby, brothers Don, Wayne, Charles, daughter-in-laws (Cindy and Carol) and an infant grandchild. Also preceding her were 6 brother-in-laws, 6 sister-in-laws, and 4 nieces.
Ople is survived by sons Deane (Nancy) Duncan, Walter Jorgensen, daughter Sharon Jensen; 6 grandchildren Gary (Carol) Duncan, Deanne (Greg) Lewis, Travis (Jennifer) Jorgensen, Kyle (Codi) Jorgensen, Sara (Matt) Blasdel and Scott Lundington; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00am at the Zion Lutheran Church, 1500 Circle Rd. in Worland. Inurnment will take place at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the service.
The family requests that memorial gifts be directed to either Zion Lutheran Church ZEST fund or the Zion Mission Board. Memorial gifts should be routed through Veile Mortuary, P.O. Box 730 Worland, WY 82401. Arrangements have been entrusted to Veile Mortuary.
