Former Worland man faces multiple child sex abuse charges

WORLAND – A former Worland man is facing six counts of first degree sexual abuse of a minor in Washakie County.

The alleged abuse occurred from August of 2014 until September of 2016.

Jason Arnold Miller, 42 of Cheyenne, pleaded not guilty in Washakie County Fifth Judicial District Court Wednesday on charges that carry up to 50 years each, with five of the charges carrying a minimum of 25 years. In all, Miller could be facing 25 to 300 years in prison if convicted of all six felonies.

According to the Washakie County Attorney’s Office, the charges are not based upon the number of incidents, but, instead, the different addresses in Washakie County where the alleged abuse took place.

Miller has been held in the Washakie County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond, which was set in this matter by Circuit Court Judge Thomas Harrington. Miller is also under sentence in Federal Court after pleading guilty to federal charges of possession of child pornography. U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson sentenced him to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of supervised probation.

As required by Wyoming Statute, the juvenile victim’s name cannot be released by the Washakie County Attorney’s Office or officials in the court system.

“These are very serious charges,” said Washakie County Deputy Attorney Anthony Barton. “It is the state’s intention to ensure a fair trial for the defendant, as well as justice for the victim.”

A trial date has yet to be scheduled.
