Northern Wyoming Daily News sponsors Silver Tree for seniors
WORLAND – Upon walking into the Northern Wyoming Daily News there is a little Christmas tree on the counter adorned with white lights, silver tinsel and silver ornaments with paper silver bells nestled in between. The Silver Tree is a type of Angel Tree but for senior community members who will be alone for this holiday season.
The idea for the silver tree came from Northern Wyoming Daily News Editor Karla Pomeroy. "As a business in Worland we wanted to do something for Christmas to support our community. We know at Christmas time there are many wonderful programs to help ensure children have a merry Christmas. We wanted to extend that and reach out to our senior community, recognizing many people may be alone during the holidays,"
Pomeroy said. "We hope the Silver Tree can make their holiday brighter," she added.
The silver tree works just like an angel tree, people take a paper silver bell that will have the gender, age and gift suggestion or suggestions of a local senior. Some bells may only have the gender and age without a gift suggestion but a list of possible gifts can be found beside the tree. Once a present is purchased, the tag and wrapped gift need to be returned to the Northern Wyoming Daily News by Dec. 19 to be delivered to the seniors before Christmas.
