WHS drama team holds State Champ title

WORLAND – Last weekend, Worland High School's drama team won first place in 3A sweepstakes in Rock Springs and Green River. With 186 points, WHS was the third highest in the tournament against 28 other schools.

According to school drama teacher, Rick Dorn, rules for state drama state that "all schools (4As, 3As, 1/2As) compete against one another in every event. Sweepstakes is done by taking the highest score from each category for ten different events, and then 3A schools are compared against other 3A schools."

Along with these victories, "The Diary of Anne Frank," directed by Worland Senior Rachael Carver, received third place in proscenium play. The production featured other students including Sullie-Ann Keuntjes, Gabriel Durrant and Raeth Tolman. Receiving honorable mentions for the play were Nathaniel Nelson and Addie Carver, both high school seniors.

Also receiving third place in devised plays was student written and performed play, "Rings of Life." Receiving honorable mentions for their performances were Rachael Carver, Abby Pfeiffer and Kaitlyn Bostrom.

Other individual victories included Emily Bleicher with the second highest score in the state for original script and Nick Bower receiving honorable mention for original script. Carter Brown and Rachel Drake received the second and third highest scores in the state for costume construction. Isabella McTague received All-State for costume design along with Katelynn Lowry receiving honorable mention. Honorable mention for lighting design went to Rachael Carver. Honorable mention for realistic make-up was Jenna McIntosh. Aspen Greek tied for second highest score in the state for fantasy make-up, as Jade Hefenieder received honorable mention.

Tied with the second highest scores in state for novice duo acting were Cody Butterfield with Kassy Ward. Ike Hines and Elizabeth McIntosh were given honorable mention for the same event. The top two scores in the state for varsity duo acting were Raeth Tolman with Jade Hefenieder and Rachael Carver with Sullie-Ann Keuntjes.

Other victories included Raeth Tolman and Cody Butterfield tied with the top two scores in the state for varsity solo acting. For solo musical, Kaitlyn Bostrom received All-State, and Andrew Nelson received honorable mention. For duo musical, Gabriel Durrant and Nathaniel Nelson received honorable mention.

WHS's group musical performances, "Be Our Guest," featuring Nathaniel Nelson, Gabriel Durrant, Ashlie Stockwell, Carmyn Buckman, Caitlin Cottrell, Tanner Stott, Nyah Campbell, Addie Carver, Rachel Drake, Andrew Nelson, Nick Bower and Olivia Thomas and "Opening up" with Kaitlyn Bostrom, Raeth Tolman, Abby Burgess and Tatum Zimmerman received the two top scores in the state.

Earning the second highest score in the state for group acting was "Freak" with Tanner Stott, Rachael Carver, Sullie-Ann Keuntjes, Katherine Martinson, Rachael Hill and Jack Vines.

"I'm very proud of these guys," Coach Rick Dorn said. "They've all worked very hard and I'm grateful for all the help."
