Worland basketball set to play in first home games of the season against Cody; Lady Warriors tipoff at 2:30 p.m., Warriors at 4 p.m.
WORLAND - The winter break has come to end for the Ten Sleep, Thermopolis and Worland high school sports teams and this weekend they will resume their respective seasons this weekend.
WORLAND
Wrestling
The Warriors kick off 2019 traveling to Green River for the Thoman Invitational wrestling tournament at Green River High School today and tomorrow. Worland will compete against six other teams from Wyoming, Green River, Rock Springs, Evanston, Lyman, Mountain View, Cokeville, along with several Utah teams competing in the tournament as well.
Boys Swimming
The Warriors are back in the pool this weekend with two meets on schedule. First up is today's meet in Cody, a quad against Cody, Riverton and Sublette County. Then tomorrow, Worland goes to Powell for the Powell Invitational where they will swim against 3A rivals Powell, Cody, Douglas, Newcastle and Riverton.
Basketball
The Warriors and Lady Warriors basketball team play their first home games of the season as they host the 4A Cody Broncs and Lady Fillies at Worland High School. The Lady Warriors (0-4) tipoff against the Fillies at 2:30 p.m. and are looking to grab their first win of the season.
The No. 4-ranked Warriors (2-2) want to get back above .500 but to do so they'll have to get by the Broncs and 4A's leading scorer Elijah Leyva (25.3). Tipoff between Worland and Cody is at 4 p.m.
THERMOPOLIS
Wrestling
The Bobcats begin the new year hitting the mat at the Shane Shatto Invitational at Douglas High School today and tomorrow. In Douglas, the 'Cats will be among the 25 teams competing for bragging rights at the tournament.
Basketball
Both Thermopolis basketball teams are in Pinedale this weekend for the East-West Classic. The Lady Bobcats open the Classic against Big Piney at 3 p.m. today. The Lady 'Cats are 2-2 on the season and looking to get above the .500 mark against the 0-5 Lady Punchers. Tomorrow, the Lady 'Cats take on No. 4 Lyman (6-2) at 11 a.m. and Pinedale (4-4) at 5 p.m.
Starting the season at 1-4 the Bobcats want to use the Classic as a means to get their season back on track. They open the Classic today against Big Piney (1-5) at 3 p.m. and Saturday go against Pinedale (4-3) at 12:30 p.m. and Lyman (1-6) at 5 p.m.
TEN SLEEP
Both Ten Sleep basketball teams begin 2019 with conference home games at Ten Sleep High School against Dubois today. The Lady Pioneers, with a 3-2 record, take on the 0-8 Dubois Lady Rams at 5 p.m. Following the girls game the Pioneers (1-4) are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. against the Rams. The Pioneers last outing was one they would like to forget, a 52-20 loss to the Riverside Rebels on Dec. 20. A win against the Rams (0-8) today would be a big boost for the young Pioneer team.
