Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
TEN SLEEP – New Ten Sleep school board members Mona Sindelar and Megan Truman said they feel that being a school board member is a serious responsibility and a way to give back to the community.
Sindelar said, "I understand that I represent the community and I believe in that. I believe in doing what they [community] want done. I believe in the kids having the best education they can have and so that's kind of my deal."
She added, "I have been in education all of my life, I care about kids. I care that things are done right."
Truman said, "I think it is a pretty important job, I take responsibilities very seriously. This feels like a very big responsibility and I will try to do as much research as I can. I have made phone calls already trying to take note of what is being said by community members. Encouraging community members to come and speak. I feel like the more input we get, the more informed decisions we can make."
She added, "I feel really grateful to be able to raise my kids in this community and I really love our school. I have been so happy with it. It feels like a privilege to be here and to be able to serve. I feel like this role is going to make me a better person."
Sindelar, who moved to Ten Sleep 10 years ago, was born in Montana but has spent many years in Wyoming, where she fell in love with the state. She has lived in many different towns in Wyoming and stated that whenever she was in Wyoming she felt like she belonged.
Besides being on the Ten Sleep school board, Sindelar is also the chair for the Ten Sleep Senior Center. She and her husband Joel have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and the major thing she believes is, "education and hard work is the key to the future."
Truman was raised in Worland and moved to Ten Sleep in 2009 when her son was ready for kindergarten. She is a stay-at-home mother to her two children and is an avid volunteer, volunteering to help with area recycling, the community garden and hosting the annual Ten Sleep Goblin Gallop.
She feels that encouraging kindness to one another is an important goal, not only as a mother but also as a community member and school board member.
