East Side Elementary holds fundraiser for new playground equipment

WORLAND – Worland East Side Elementary School is holding a fundraiser from Jan. 21 – Feb. 13 to raise money for new playground equipment that is more suited for kindergarten and first-grade students.

Worland East Side Elementary School Principal Chris Peterson explained that much of the equipment on the playground has been there since some of the teachers went to school at East Side. He added that to make the equipment safe for the students required parts to be removed because finding replacements parts was impossible.

"The piece of equipment that we do have is not big enough for what we have, to service more kids during recess time for them to run around and burn some energy. It just needs to go and that's why we are having the fundraiser. We would like to get, at least, just one big piece of equipment that we could have 50-60 kids on at one time playing," Peterson said.

The community has rallied behind the school donating five different items, to be raffled off, that can be won by those participating in the fundraiser: half a beef, half a day spa treatment at Cloud Peak Chiropractic and Wellness, $100 Amazon gift card, a gift box from Bryant Honey and rock chip repair from Jay's Detail.

The top selling students will also be receiving awards for selling the most raffle tickets, but unlike what the flier sent home said, the prizes will not be cash prizes, Peterson stated.

Peterson stated that the new playground equipment will benefit not only the students but the community as well since many children use the playground during the summer months.
