Sheridan, WY-July 31, 2019- On the evening of July 30th, firefighters were looking for two reported fires in northern portion of the Bighorn National Forest. It was determined that there is likely only one fire, named the Lick Creek fire.
This fire is located approximately one mile down Forest Trail 076, accessed by Forest Road 147, off of the Dayton Gulch Road (Forest Road 15). It is described as Township 56N, R 90 W, Section 9.
It is currently four acres in size, burning in heavy timber fuels. Approximately 15 firefighters using All Terrain Vehicles and one helicopter from the Wyoming State Forestry arrived on the fire this morning to begin suppression actions of fireline construction and water drops. An additional 10 firefighters have been ordered to help secure the fire.
Weather will remain hot and dry, and while the fire danger indeces are currently Moderate, the fire has potential to grow with passing thunderstorm winds that could hit the fire.
The public should remain out of the fire area. Forest Road 147 and Trail 076 have been temporarily closed, with an exception for the public to remove any trailers that may be down FR 147.
