Warrior Hall of Fame inaugural class selected

WORLAND - The inaugural class of the Worland High School Warriors Hall of Fame has been selected and those being enshrined are Francie Faure, Mary Faure, Debbie Hammons, Carl Selmer, Grant Ujifusa, Roger Youtz and David Zuniga.

The mission of the Warrior Hall of Fame is to honor Worland High School alumni and those who made an impact on the district as employees, and with these first seven inductees, it's impressive accomplishment after impressive accomplishment.

Francie Faure (WHS '81-'84) was a three-time All-State cross-country champion and went on to earn a full ride to run track and cross-country for the University of Oregon.

Mary Faure (WHS '74-'77) was a track and field state champion in the softball throw and was inducted into the Northern Colorado Hall of Fame as a member of the 1978 UNC women's softball team.

Debbie Hammons (graduated from WHS in 1969) produced and hosted TV shows that included "Main Street, Wyoming" and "Wyoming Voices". She served 12 years on the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees and represented Washakie County as a member of the Wyoming House of Representatives from 2004-10.

Tom Harrington (graduated from WHS in 1970) Warrior wrestling coach for six seasons, winning three state titles during his time, and was the fifth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge from 2008-18.

Carl Selmer (Warrior football coach from 1947-56), during his 10 seasons as the Warriors football coach complied an 80-21-3 record and five-straight Class A state championships.

Grant Ujifusa (graduated from WHS in 1960) was the All-League quarterback on the Warriors 1959 Class A State champion team. Ujifusa graduated from Harvard and was recruited to lead the Japanese American Citizens League, which helped pass HR-442 Restitution for Wartime Internment.

Roger Youtz coached Warrior basketball from 1959-1964, going 65-73 and qualifying for the AA-A State basketball tournament three times. Principal at Worland Junior High School for 20 years.

David Zuniga (graduated in 1986) was a three-time Wyoming state champion for the Warriors. He was a bronze medalist at the 1995 Pan American Games, a silver medalist at the 1999 Pan American Games and competed in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga.

Inductees will be honored during Homecoming Week, Sept. 30-Oct. 5.

The Warrior Hall of Fame selection committee has begun taking submissions for next year's HoF class. To submit a nomination for the Warrior Hall of Fame you can either write or email Mark Mortimer at Worland High School 801 S. 17th Street Worland, WY 82401 or [email protected]. Be sure to include your reasoning for nominating said person as well as their list of accomplishments as a Warrior, in college and/or career accomplishments. All nominees who aren't inducted will still be considered for the following year's class, with the ability to add additional information.
