Rachel's Challenge returns to Worland schools

WORLAND – Rachel’s Challenge is set to make a return to Worland Middle School and Worland High School on Monday and Tuesday

This will be the second year in a row that the program has come to Worland, and it will come with a little bit of a twist, as sixth graders will receive a little bit different of a program, while all of the other grades will receive the same program that they did last year.

Rachel’s Challenge was set up 18 years ago by Rachel’s father Darrell, just two years after the Columbine High School mass shooting in 1999 in memory of Rachel Scott, the first of the 13 victims of the shooting.

Rachel was seen as unique, as she had written many counts of her experiences and how important it was to incorporate kindness in to every day.

According to their website, the program strives to create a framework for a positive climate and culture within schools, which is intended to discourage bullying and replace negative acts with positive ones.

This program looks to promote and encourage students to perform small acts of kindness each day in order to help motivate everyone to look at their relationships with the people that they come in contact with every day.

Touring throughout the country and promoting the positive message set forth by Rachel Scott, this program has reached “over 23 million people” and has helped prevent countless tragedies for individuals and communities.

There will be a community event open to the public on Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Middle School Auditorium.
