Wanda “Lou” Schaper Steinle, 83, of Thermopolis, WY passed away on Saturday. January 25, 2020, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Thermopolis.
Wanda Lou Schaper was born on June 24, 1936 in Riverton, WY to Arthur and Opal Olga (Ibach) Schaper. Lou was raised in Buck Horn Flats and attended schools in Riverton. She graduated from Riverton High School with the class of 1955.
She majored in Elementary Education and Home Economics at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID with a double degree. She also attended the University of Wyoming for three years. Her teaching career was over 34 years in Mill Creek, Morton, and Casper, WY.
On December 22, 1965 she married John A Steinle in Riverton, WY at her parents’ home. They were married for 51 years before John passed on October 31, 2017. John and Lou lived and ranched in the Bates Hole and Casper area.
When the couple retired they moved to Buffalo, WY then to Thermopolis where they spent the rest of their years.
Lou served as the Chairman for the Hot Springs Historical Society for three years.
She is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Glass, Linda Taylor, and Regina Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Opal Schaper; and her husband, John Steinle.
