WMS musical comedy comes to life next week

WORLAND - Twenty-three Worland Middle School students will present a musical comedy, "Going, Going, Gone With The Breeze," next Thursday and Friday at the WMS Auditorium.

Twenty cast members and three technical crew members have been working since just before Christmas under the direction of teachers Amy Wright and Kimberly Moore to present the musical.

The synopsis for the play is that the "exciting new novel "Gone With the Breeze" is about to become a movie. Lone Pine films wants Peggy Tempest as their lead, however, she is difficult to work with. Producers Huckleberry Jones and Ruth Wintersole have a plan to make sure she behaves."

According to cast members Breidi Nelson, Ellianna Baumstarck and Maci Newell, said people likely won't be familiar with the songs in the play but those familiar with "Gone With the Wind," will recognize some references to the famous novel and movie.

All three eighth graders have been involved in the WMS plays for the past three years. Nelson said she enjoys acting and being involved in the productions because "it's a coming together as a family to make a fun piece."

Baumstarck said she loves everything about about acting and plays. She said Moore and Wright let the students give suggestions about their characters and about scenes.

"It's fun. We're all friends and we've been able to hang out with new people."

Newell said, "I like it because you can be yourself and no one judges you. You get to let your emotions go into your character."

Just as everyone likes bloopers on television, the trio said the mess-ups on stage during rehearsals make it a lot of fun.

Nelson plays Georgia Bromwell the young film director who wants everything to go right.

Newell is Roxanne, the movie receptionist and a bit of a snob who wants to be the main person in the production.

Baumstarck is Huckleberry Jones, an uptight, orderly professional who sees no grey area in anything.

The three said the play is "funny for kids and adults."

They added that the students have "worked real hard and put in a bunch of time and effort into the production," making it a worthwhile production to come and see.

The production will showcase the new lighting and sound installed in the auditorium. Breece Ferguson is the audio and light technician for the production.

Jay Richard and Kevin Diede are the set designers.
