Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
October 15, 1923 – May 27, 2020
Lorene Price Miller passed away May 27, 2020, at Worland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Worland, Wyoming.
Lorene was born on October 15, 1923, in a country home near Gilman City, Missouri. Lorene was the second of four children born to Layette and Ruth (Harrison) Price. Her parents later divorced, and her mother was left to raise four young children. Ruth Price subsequently died of pulmonary tuberculosis. Prior to her death, these four young children were delivered to various aunts and uncles for their upbringing. Lorene was sent to Uncle Jim Frank and Aunt Lucille Ward of Gilman City at approximately 12 years of age. Uncle Frank and Aunt Lucille had two children, Newt and Peggy, both of whom Lorene adored and considered her brother and sister.
Lorene attended grade school through high school in Gilman City. While in high school, she met her future husband, Johny Miller. On December 27, 1943, during one of his leaves home from the Navy, Lorene and Johny were married.
While Johny was away in the South Pacific, Lorene worked in Kansas City as a keypunch operator in a war defense plant serving her country during WWII. Lorene gave birth to their first son, Mickey, while Johny was at sea.
After the War, Lorene and Johny returned home to the small family farm that Johny and his dad owned and where Lorene and Johny lived. During a vacation to Worland to visit Lorene's sister and her husband, Tress and Elmer Downing, the Millers decided to try living in Worland for six months.
Lorene and Johny enjoyed Worland and made it their home for the next 70 years. For a number of years, Lorene worked as a teller for Stockgrowers State Bank, which is now ANB Bank. Until Lorene began living in the Worland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, she had lunch with her "bank ladies" every Friday. After retirement, the Millers traveled extensively in the US, visiting all 50 states and spending 14 winters in Texas.
During their marriage, Lorene had two sons, Mickey, who died at 12 years of age from a short-term illness, and Dan, who is a veterinarian in Worland.
Lorene is preceded in death by her son, Mickey; sister, Tresslyn Downing; sister, Jean Curtis; brother, Pat Price. Lorene is survived by her Son Dan (Terri); Granddaughter Chelsey (Lucas); Grandson Cameron (Haley); Great-grandsons, Hudson and Ellis; Nieces Dixie Muirhead (Downing) and Deb Wickam (Downing); and Nephew John Downing
Memorials may be made to the CrossPoint Baptist Church in Worland, Wyoming and sent to PO box 524, Worland, WY 82401
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family burial will take place this coming week. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
