Bell Ringer helped make lasting memory on senior class

WORLAND – The Washakie County District No. 1 Board of Trustees presented Kara Anderson with the Bell Ringer Award at their regular meeting May 25 in the Worland Middle School Auditorium.

The Bell Ringer is awarded to an outstanding citizen from the community who contributes to the district behind the scenes.

"I am humbled," Anderson said. "It was not something that I sought out, but I am very honored."

Anderson currently works with the Department of Family Services. However, even though she herself does not work directly with the district in any capacity, she has helped contribute to the district through volunteering at school-hosted events, sporting events, and even being one of the leading people to work on the Class of 2020 graduation parade.

THE PARADE

Anderson does not actually have a senior this year, her son is a sophomore. She felt it was the right thing to do to pursue a parade for the seniors after most of their spring semester was cut short due to COVID-19 guidelines.

"I cannot imagine the senior parents and the stress that their kids were going through," Anderson said.

Giving back to the community as a whole was something that rang true for Anderson, as she had health issues a few years ago and the community helped her get through those trying times.

Anderson sought help from the community along with businesses and assistance from local entities to try and put on a parade. A group of senior parents helped organize everything along the way, and they also had input from seniors on what they wanted to do.

Anderson said she would definitely be willing to help if future classes decided to do a parade, and was hopeful that next year if they were to do it that social distancing would not have to be a priority.

"I am humbled and honored that the school district thought of me," Anderson said. "I would do anything that I could for our school district."
