TEN SLEEP – Ten Sleep School was nearly left without a school nurse when Colleen Holiday resigned in July just before school beginning in August, but then Kenzi Weddle decided to apply for the position and was hired.
She left her position at Cloud Peak Counseling Center to accept her new role at Washakie County School District No. 1
Weddle and her husband moved here from Licking, Missouri, along with their dog Lucy. Weddle bring prior nursing experience because before moving to the area, Weddle was a nurse in the Medical Oncology Unit at Phelps Health in Rolla, Missouri.
Weddle earned two bachelor degrees, one in nursing and one in health care while being dual enrolled at Evangel University and Cox College in Springfield, Missouri.
She decided to apply for the open nursing position at Ten Sleep School because she knew it was the perfect place for her.
"I have always had a passion for working with students," Weddle said. "I love the community of Ten Sleep and the school, which made it such an easy decision."
Weddle moves into the nursing position during a difficult time as the whole world deals with the global COVID-19 pandemic.
She feels fortunate that the administration at the school and the Washakie County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees did such a diligent job in creating the reopening plan for the school this year.
Weddle has been amazed by the students in the school and how well they have been doing with wearing their masks and social distancing throughout the day.
"Although there have been challenges with COVID-19, I am determined to continue to provide quality care to the students and staff along with making sure they stay safe," Weddle said.
Weddle loves the challenges and all of the aspects that come with school nursing, and has been grateful for the amazing students, staff and administration that have been so kind to her as she figures out school nursing amidst the challenges of COVID-19.
Outside of her nursing duties, Weddle enjoys watching football and going hiking and fishing with her husband.
She and her husband are expecting their first child in April.
