Republicans sweep local state legislative seats

Republicans Ed Cooper of Ten Sleep and incumbent Representative John Winter of Thermopolis cruised to victory in their election bids for Wyoming State Senate District 20 and Wyoming House District 28, respectively. Incumbent Republican Representative Mike Greear of Worland will retain his seat after running unopposed.

Cooper won his seat in the Senate with a victory over Democratic challenger Theresa Livingston of Worland where according to unofficial results Cooper received 7,495 to Livingston's 1,293.

"I am really thankful for the people all over (Senate) District 20," Cooper said. "I am really looking forward to working for the people (of District 20) in Cheyenne."

Cooper won election by receiving 3,368 votes in Washakie County to Livingston's 543. Cooper also received 2,031 votes to Livingston's 472 in Hot Springs County. He outgained Livingston in Big Horn County where he received 1,358 votes and Livingston received 171 votes. Finally, Cooper received 335 votes in Fremont County and Livingston received 32.

Winter defeated Democratic challenger Levi Shinkle where according to unofficial results, Winter received 3,767 votes to Shinkle's 816 votes.

"I am glad to have been re-elected, and I am looking forward to getting this budget under control for the state," Winter said.

Winter won Hot Springs County with a total of 1,902 votes to Shinkle's 595; he also received 1,128 votes to Shinkle's 123 votes in Big Horn County. Winter received 407 votes to Shinkle's 66 in Park County. Winter outgained Shinkle 330 to 32 in Fremont County.

Greear ran unopposed in the general election, and unofficially received 3,763 total votes. Greear received 3,494 votes in Washakie County and 269 in Big Horn County.
