LARAMIE - The Chief Washakie FFA Wool team participated in the 7220 Invitational Wool Judging Contest last week and won the FFA division.
The Invitational was hosted by the University of Wyoming Wool Team and held at an off-campus location. The contest took the place of the National Western Round-Up competition that was to take place in conjunction with the National Western Stock Show in Denver but was canceled due to COVID.
According to FFA advisor Grace Godfrey, the team - Olivia Dalebout, Olivia Shaffer and Odalys Osorio-Alcala - was able to work out on Thursday by judging four classes and a rail of wool which helped them get back on track after a long break.
The contest was comprised of six placing classes: Fine commercial, Colombia breed, Targhee breed, 3/8 blood commercial, 1/4 blood commercial and Corriedale. They also had to give three sets of oral reasons and then do a grading line, according to Godfrey.
Dalebout led the team by being first in senior placings, second in senior reasons and second high individual overall and high FFA individual.
The team was also the high team in placings overall, third high team in reasons and won the FFA division and were second high team overall.
Teams participating were from Wyoming and Kansas and will all meet up again in a few weeks at the Rapid City Stock Show wool judging contest.
