Small earthquake south of Ten Sleep Tuesday

TEN SLEEP — The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 3.9 magnitude earthquake 49 kilometers (30.4 miles) south of Ten Sleep at 6:22 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 13, 2021.

The depth of quake was reported at 13.7 kilometers or 8.5 miles.

The USGS website shows reports of 23 people feeling the quake around Ten Sleep, as far south as Casper, Thermopolis and in Fremont County. All reports were listed as “weak” in regard to severity of the earthquake.

On social media, several Ten Sleep area residents reported feeling the quake with one resident reporting her water jug splashed back and forth, and one resident stating the house shook and tall objects were “destabilized but not toppled.”
