Drug Free Community Walk/Run May 12

WORLAND – The Washakie Prevention Coalition’s (WPC) Drug Free Community Walk/Run is set to take place Wednesday, May 12, on the Worland Walking Path from 6:30-8 p.m.

“We want business and community members to come and enjoy the fresh air to get the summer kicked off in a positive way by showing support for a drug-free community,” Lila Jolley of Washakie County Prevention said.

Donations made during the event will go toward the activity pass program. The activity pass program gives activity scholarships to local youth who would otherwise be unable to participate in the sport due to costs.

“Our goal is to be certain all kids have access to activities alternative to substance abuse,” an invitation sent out to local businesses said.

According to Jolley, there will be a free T-shirt and backpack given away that will have local resource pamphlets inside.

Business booths will not be located alongside the walking path this year, instead local businesses are encouraged to wear branded items to represent their business or bring a support poster to place alongside the road to show support for a drug-free community.

Those unable to attend the walk/run but would like to become involved with the WPC may attend the once monthly meeting or visit washakiepreventioncoalition.org to learn more about the organization.
