Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
WORLAND — The Worland High School Graduation Parade, sponsored by Worland Rotary and organized by Kara Anderson will be at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday, May 13.
Anderson said she had not initially planned to organize a parade this year, noting last year’s parade was organized since there were no traditional graduation ceremonies due to COVID-19 health restrictions in place. The parade was popular with seniors and with residents.
Members of this year’s senior class approached Anderson about organizing the parade again so she agreed.
She said she opted to organize the parade as a non-school-functioned event, Worland Rotary is sponsoring the parade and helped procure the insurance for the parade. Anderson has recruited some volunteers to assist in the parade including lining up the seniors.
There are 88 seniors set to graduate on Sunday, May 16. Seniors will parade down Big Horn Avenue from 23rd Street to Railway Avenue. They will go alphabetically after the valedictorians and senior class president.
Anderson said the students have more leeway on the design of their floats but must have use a vehicle with four wheels for safety issues, which can be a car, pickup, or trailer, or they can use horses.
She said she has one that will be using a boat, a few that have signed up with tractors.
“The skies the limit. They can decorate how they want as long as they keep it classy,” Anderson said. “They seniors are excited to add their own flair.”
As for the Thursday date, Anderson said with many families celebrating after graduation she wanted to move it away from Sunday, May 16. She tried to pick a date that did not have school district events but found out after the date that a middle school music concert is scheduled at 6:45 p.m. the same night.
She added that this year the seniors can throw candy out if they desire.
Seniors that have not confirmed participation are encouraged to call Anderson at 307-388-0487.
