Worland's top students honored at graduation

WORLAND - Worland High School recognized five valedictorians from the Class of 2021 at Sunday's graduation ceremony - Carmyn Buckman, Robyn Horath, Annalise Newell, Tanner Stott and Kimberly Sumida, as well as salutatorian Logan Yule.

•Carmyn Buckman is the daughter of Kristin and Jeffrey Buckman. Throughout high school Buckman was involved in indoor track, softball, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), W-Club, student council, National Honor Society (NHS), drama, marching band, jazz band, concert band, concert choir, Treblesome, Friends of Rachel (FOR) club, senior class vice president, band president and drumline section leader.

She plans to attend the University of Wyoming to study music education and is the recipient of the Wyoming State Snowmobile Association Scholarship.

If Buckman had to pick one quote to describe her time at Worland it would be "God is within her, she will not fail," Psalms 46:5.

She would like to thank her classmates for the friendships and experiences and to work hard, have integrity and be kind.

•Robyn Horath is the daughter of Dan and Jennifer Horath. Throughout her time at WHS she was the girls varsity golf captain, girls basketball manager, she competed in the Science Olympiad, NHS and W-Club.

Horath will be attending the University of Wyoming and will be majoring in biology with an emphasis in pre-med as she hopes to become a pediatric surgeon.

If she could pick one quote to describe her time at WHS it would be to "be better today than you were yesterday."

Her advice to her fellow graduates would be to just be happy with who you are and do not change for anyone.

•Annalise Newell is the daughter of Julie and Aaron Newell. During her time at WHS she was involved in swimming, W-Club, student council class secretary, NHS secretary, marching band, symphonic band, Marshazz, FCA and drama.

Newell plans to attend the University of Wyoming to study mechanical engineering in the honors program. She is the recipient of the Trustees' Scholarship and the ELKs Most Valuable Student Scholarship.

If she could pick one quote it would be that it is "not fare well, but fare forward, voyagers," by T.S. Eliot. Her advice to her classmates would be to not let your curiosity die as you move forward in life.

•Tanner Stott, who is the son of Jack and Julie Stott. Stott was the president of the FBLA, NHS vice president, member of the state drama and speech and debate teams, cast member of all spring and fall plays, W-Club member and the accompanist on the piano for Marshazz.

Stott will be attending Brigham Young University (BYU) in the fall on a full-tuition scholarship studying data science through the honors program.

Stott said that all that this class has achieved, they could not have done in the first place without the efforts, achievements and sacrifices of their ancestors, leaders, teachers and family. Remember them, and honor them.

•Kimberly Sumida is the daughter of Heidi Smith and Dustin Sumida. Sumida was the student council president, involved in speech and debate, W-Club, cheerleading, NHS, choir, philosophy club and she was the FBLA vice president.

She will be attending Michigan State University and will be majoring in one of the four programs offered in their James Madison Residential College, she is the recipient of the STARR Scholarship.

If she had to pick one quote to describe her time at WHS it would be "ask not what Worland High School can do for you, but what you can do for Worland High School."

Sumida's advice for her fellow classmates would be that involvement in your school and community is the best way to help others and further yourself in the process.

•Salutatorian Logan Yule is the daughter of Jeff and Terrie Yule. Throughout her time at WHS she was involved in soccer, basketball, cross country, volleyball, Treblesome, band, jazz band, NHS, W-Club as well as Big Brother Big Sisters.

She will be attending the University of Wyoming to study speech pathology and special education.

Yule said that "it was no 'High School Musical,' but I will forever be grateful for the relationships, experiences and memories I have from the past for years."

She wants her fellow graduates to be confident in their future because she knows they can all do great things.
