Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
The Chief Washakie FFA Range Judging team fell 19 points short of becoming the WyRED (Wyoming Range Education Days) and FFA Range Judging State Champions.
WyRED was held in Uinta County, above Mountain View, for the 25th anniversary.
Worland High School staff member, Ryan Utterback, took the team to the three-day camp and then the contest on the fourth day. Utterback and the team learned soil texturing, ranch planning, plant identification, plant usage for cattle and sage grouse and much more, according to advisor Grace Godfrey.
This year's team consisted of freshman and team high scorer, Dawson Utterback and juniors Koby Busch, Abel Vega and Luke Voss. Dawson placed third overall and Ryan Utterback placed third in the adult division.
The team was once again sponsored by the Washakie County Conservation District. They have paid for team member registration fees for over 15 years and the local FFA chapter appreciates their continued support.
