9-11 service to include music, speeches, moment of silence

WORLAND — The 9-11 commemorative service committee has finalized plans for the service at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, in Pioneer Square.

The service, 9-11 20 Years: We Will Never Forget, will begin at 10 a.m. with a welcome by Master of Ceremonies Commissioner Chairman Fred Frandson. There will be a moment of silence while flags at city hall, the courthouse and the park are lowered to half-staff. Worland Fire Department personnel will lower the flag at city hall; law enforcement will lower the flag at the courthouse and Cody Regional ambulance staff will lower the flag at the park.

Members from American Legion Post 44 will present the U.S. and Wyoming flags. Frandson will lead those in attendance in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Sugar Beats will sing the “Star Spangled Banner.”

Pastor John Burns from CrossPoint Baptist Church will say a prayer.

The Sugar Beats will also perform “Battle Hymn of the Republic and “God Bless The USA.”

There will be speeches by Worland Mayor Jim Gill and Wyoming Sugar CEO and State Rep. Mike Greear.

Breck Buer will perform “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning.”

The American Legion will provide a gun salute and playing of “Taps.”

The public is welcome to come and attend the service that is expected to last about an hour. Seating will not be provided.

Committee Chairman Mike St Clair said he is working with Range to provide video of the service.

Also in observance of 20 years after the 9-11 terror attacks, the Washakie Museum is planning a special display that week and is asking residents with any items, newspapers, photos to loan them to the museum for the display.

Members of the committee, spearheaded by Mike St Clair of WBI, include members of the American Legion, law enforcement, Cody Regional ambulance, Worland-Ten Sleep Chamber, Washakie Museum, Northern Wyoming News, Worland Fire Department.
