Pit Stop Travel Center looks to September for opening

WORLAND - While initial plans had the new Pit Stop Travel Center opening mid-summer this year, material shortages have delayed the project, according to owner Mike Bailey of Bailey Enterprises.

Bailey said they are now hoping to be open the first to the middle part of September. "Everything we've ordered has taken way longer than normal but we are moving forward," he said.

He said they are starting to get flooring in place inside and concrete work is beginning outside.

Bailey said there will be some area for lease to another business. He said he has not found a tenant yet for that space.

The new Pit Stop is at the former Reese & Ray's IGA. Bailey Enterprises purchased the building from Eaglecav on Dec. 22, 2020.

Work began shortly after to renovate the 28,000 square foot facility into an 18,000 square foot facility, eliminating 10,000 square feet to provide more room for large fueling station bays.

Bailey said the newly renovated facility will have a new, slightly larger liquor store.

In addition to the liquor store there will be a large convenience store with all the regular amenities of a C-store Bailey said, including oversized restrooms.

The liquor store is currently open during renovations and once the new liquor store is complete they will move to the new location and the old store will be torn down for drive-thru lanes for trucks to exit from the diesel fueling station.

The new liquor store will have a drive-thru window where people can purchase liquor as well as hot food items, snacks, and more.

As for the hot food items Bailey said he has not "tied down exactly the offering we will have yet." He said it will not be a national franchise. There will be a multiple variety of hot food items available, he said.

As for the gas station, Bailey said the bays will be able to accommodate all sizes of vehicles, vehicles hauling trailers and motorhomes. He said there will be 11 fueling positions at the Worland Pit Stop.

Bailey said once they get close to opening they will start interviewing for new employees about three to four weeks ahead of opening. He said they are looking at hiring 15 to 20 employees including cooks, cashiers and stockers.
