Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Mike Montoya Jr, 78, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY with his wife and son by his side. He attended Worland High School before serving his country in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan on the USS Princeton carrier and served as a navigator during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged he returned home and met Marilyn June Pederson and they were later married on April 30, 1966 in Rigby, ID. They settled in Worland, WY where Mike worked for Triangle Packing as a salesman before starting his construction career working for Roy Martin Construction and Jerry Martin Construction. After realizing his passion for home building, he started his own business- Montoya Construction. He prided himself on the quality of his workmanship and built and remodeled hundreds of homes around the Big Horn Basin for 45 years before retiring. Many will remember him from his years as the drummer in Sal & The Sons of Sound. He enjoyed playing at the Oktoberfest and around the Big Horn Basin for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #44 and his hobbies included hunting, coin collecting, and restoring his 1965 Chevrolet SS Impala.
Mike Montoya was preceded in death by his parents, Mike Sr and Cuca Montoya of Worland, WY. Mike is survived by his wife Marilyn Montoya of the home, brother Alex (Gail) Briceno of Billings, MT; sister Dolores Coguill of Worland, WY; sons Mike (Tammy) Montoya of Worland, WY, and Marty Montoya of Billings, MT; daughters Marla (Robert) Edwards and Mareena (Scott) McClure of Queen Creek, AZ; grandchildren: Phoenix (Matt) Douglass of Chandler, AZ, Ajiah Montoya of Worland, WY, Michela (James) Dorman of Billings, MT, Jessarae (Jonah) Baker of Worland, WY; Myranda, Marissa, Mariah Montoya of Billings, MT; Hunter & Hadyn Haskin, Ben & Caroline Edwards; and Kade & Alaina McClure of Queen Creek, AZ; great grandchildren: Tallulah, River, & Olive Dorman and Finlee & Duncan Baker; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mike Montoya Jr will always be remembered for his big smile, loving spirit, giving nature, and amazing sense of humor. He will be forever loved and greatly missed.
A Visitation will be held at the Veile Colonial Chapel in Worland, on October 21, 2021 from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at The Victory Christian Center on October 22, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to
