Board seeking diversity in entertainment, food vendors for 2022 fair

WORLAND — The Washakie County Fair Board is hoping to provide more food vendors and a diverse entertainment schedule for the 2022 county fair.

During the regular meeting Monday, Nov. 8, the board agreed to move the swine show from Tuesday evening to Tuesday morning with all livestock weigh-ins on Monday. There were many requests to move the swine show after temperatures reached 105 degrees at the start of the show this year.

Moving the swine show frees up a night for a grandstand entertainment event.

The fair board plans on contracting for pig wrestling on Monday night. They asked Sherry Walter to contact the motocross team about doing a show on Tuesday night.

They will be accepting bids early for the main fair rodeo, as well as a kids rodeo and a ranch rodeo, with a decision to come after receiving bids on whether to have a ranch rodeo and a kids rodeo for the 2022 fair.

They are investigating the possibility of bringing in Knights of Valour with an extreme jousting event.

They are also contacting a company regarding a bouncy house and other inflatable playground pieces.

The board on Monday added a Strut Your Mutt Show for people to bring their dogs to compete in fun categories. The show will likely be Saturday afternoon.

MUSIC

The board discussed bringing in a larger name entertainer for a grandstand concert on Saturday night.

They are considering additional music on Wednesday night and after the main rodeo on Friday night.

The board has been contacted by Jared Rogerson of Pinedale, Jake Gill of Kansas and Rattlesnake Ridge of Worland all expressing interest in performing at the 2022 Washakie County Fair.

FOOD VENDORS

The board said they are hoping to address concerns from a recent survey in which people said they would like to see more food vendors and have a better variety than the same thing every year.

The board said there are several booths in the main food area that have been open. They are available to non-profit and commercial vendors. Preference is given to vendors from the previous year.

The board emphasized that they welcome commercial food vendors, including food trucks. The fee is slightly higher than the fee for non-profits.

For applications to be a vendor at the 2022 Washakie County Fair, July 25-30, see the website at http://www.washakiecountyfair.com or contact fair board at [email protected].

The board also approved a motion to move all Bred and Fed shows to a separate show with a separate judge. The Bred and Fed Show will likely be on Friday.

There was discussion about expanding open class to include livestock shows.
