District No. 1 seeks input on next year’s school calendar

WORLAND – After multiple discussions about changing the calendar for the 2022-2023 Washakie County School Board District No. 1 school year, the school board has put a survey online for parents and faculty to vote on which calendar they prefer. They decided to do this after many complaints about this year’s calendar.
The survey first has district patrons look at five different calendar drafts to decide which one is the best. Upon deciding, you can follow the survey link and answer the questions such as what school your child goes to or if you are a teacher, what components you like about the calendars, what your thoughts are on the timing and lengths of days off during the school year, what your top priority is in the school calendar, and any other comments you may have. Some of the board’s worries with the current calender included finals not being before winter break, as well as the length of school breaks.
The board is scheduled to vote on the calendar in December. Their regular meeting has been moved to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13.
In addition to the discussion about the school year calendar at their regular meeting Nov. 22, the school board also had a discussion regarding a concealed carrying policy. No action was taken at this time. A survey has been uploaded to the school district website regarding this new policy.
The survey, which is submitted anonymously, takes input from staff, parents, students and community members about how they feel about drafting a rule allowing employees to conceal carry in school buildings. The survey allows them to choose on whether they feel if this would make their schools safer, less safe, or have no effect.
