Janice Marie "Jan" (Pennock) Martinson, 69, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday November 14, 2021 at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Born November 27, 1951 in Cody, Wyoming, Jan was the daughter of the late Russell Clair and Marjorie Lucille (Pitzer) Pennock. In 1971, Jan was united in marriage to Alan Martinson and to this union two children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan; one sister, Jeri Parker; one brother, John Pennock; as well as her brother-in-law, Kent Martinson.
Jan is survived by one son, Sam Martinson of Kirksville, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Russell Shirk of Kirksville, MO; two granddaughters, Elisabeth and Samantha Shirk both of Kirksville, MO; and two sisters-in-law, Kathy Kunz of Worland, WY, and Helen Nelson of Cheyenne, WY.
Jan was a graduate of Worland High School in Worland, Wyoming with the Class of 1970 and attended and received her nursing degree in 1992 from Northwest Community College in Powell, Wyoming. In 1993, Jan moved to Kirksville, Missouri to make her home and begin working at Grim-Smith Hospital, later for Northeast Regional Medical Center until retiring in 2020.
Jan loved sewing, cooking weekly family dinners, shopping, and had a great love for cats and dogs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kirksville.
Jan has been cremated and family will receive friends on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
A Memorial Service will follow visitation at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021 with Pastor Dale Stone officiating.
