Frontier Tire in Worland celebrates 30 years in business

WORLAND – Frontier Tire in Worland celebrated the 30th anniversary in business earlier this month.

Frontier Tire started in December 1991 by Jeff Dorr, his wife at the time, Dale Hovander. They purchased the Petty Tire store at 417 N 10th Street to begin their auto repair business.

Dorr said, "Naming the shop was difficult. I had many different names in mind and settled with Frontier. I felt the name was fitting to Worland and the area.

Dorr eventually bought out Hovander in 2001.

Owning his own business was a childhood dream coming true for Dorr. He said he started right out of high school working on and off for Petty Tire Shop as a tire technician and then later as an alignment technician.

"I always had a passion for cars and taking care of people's automotive needs. After starting Frontier Tire I realized as time went by there was a need to have more of a one stop shop to care for customers' automotive needs." Frontier Tire started simply as a tire service.

Frontier Tire expanded out of their original building into their current one in 2013 and they expanded the business by moving part of the shop work into the former Big West Autoplex location north of the original shop.

Frontier Tire offers small to large tires, brake service, alignment, oil changes, flushes (transmission, power steering, brakes and coolant), tire service trucks for farm and road, diagnostics and repair on cars, light trucks and trucks.

The North Shop is the office showroom sales and service, lube and oil, new and used tire sales and tire repair.

The South Shop or the original shop, is used for alignments, and auto and all truck repair.

"As Frontier Tire grew we were able to purchase better tools and equipment, remodel buildings to serve our customers better," Dorr said.

When he started out Frontier Tire had two employees and they now have 10 to 12.

Dorr said there's currently no future plans for the business and that they plan to, "Continue to serve the people."

The business' official anniversary was Dec. 16.

Dorr said his secret to staying open so long is loyalty, honesty and consistency.
