Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
WORLAND - When Washakie County Extension Administrative Assistant Janet Benson announced her retirement the search began for a replacement and it ended with a newcomer to the county, Carrie Abbe.
While she grew up in Oregon, Abbe is familiar with Wyoming, having come to visit her daughter Hannah Agar. She also visited Wyoming with her husband Clint, who works for the Agars.
Carrie Abbe began duties on Jan. 3. She and her husband Clint and daughter Aimee moved to Washakie County from Oregon in November when her husband was transferred here to work on an Agar family ranch. He had worked for the Agar family in Oregon until the ranch there was sold, Abbe said.
Abbe said most of her work will be with 4-H Educator Amber Armajo, although she will work with Extension Educator Caitlin Youngquist as well.
The first few weeks have been spent training with Benson and helping the Extension Office gear up for WESTI Ag Days coming up Feb. 15-16.
Abbe said her children were all involved in 4-H and FFA and with the training she has already had she realizes there's a lot more to 4-H on the other side than she realized on the parent side.
"There's a lot to learn but everyone has been amazingly patient and I am eager to learn," Abbe said.
Carrie and Clint have five children, Hannah Agar who lives outside of Thermopolis, Makayla Buchanan who lives in Northern California, Emma Abbe also of Northern California, Aimee Abbe, now of Worland, and Tal Abbe, who is in the Army in North Carolina. They also have five grandchildren.
When not working or spending time with family, Carrie Abbe enjoys making silver and turquoise jewelry. She said they also purchased a fixer-upper in Worland that they will be working on.
She said she is excited about the job and the opportunity it offers to get to know people in the community.
