Baumstarck leads the way for Chief Washakie FFA Wool Team

Ellianna Baumstarck, a sophomore at Worland High School and member of the Chief Washakie FFA wool judging team, led the team at the 7220 Invitational Wool judging contest at the University of Wyoming to a third-place finish and a first-place finish at the National Western Stock Show in Denver last week. Baumstarck was the second overall winner and high individual in placings.

The team of Baumstarck, senior Olivia Shaffer, senior Odalys Osorio-Alcala, sophomore Cayden Robertson, and sophomore Waylon Lissman, finished third overall, first high team in placings, fourth place in reasons, and third place on the rail at the 7220 Invitational Wool Judging contest held in Laramie on Tuesday, Jan. 11

Baumstarck continued her winning trend at the National Western Stock Show. She was the high individual overall, the high individual in placings, second high on the rail, and second high in questions. Shaffer was the third high individual overall, the third high individual in placings, the high individual in grading, and the third high individual in questions. Osorio-Alcala was fourth high individual overall, second high individual in placings, third high individual in grading, fifth high individual in questions, and second high individual in reasons, Robertson placed fifth overall, fifth high individual in grading, and fourth overall individual questions, Lissman placed seventh overall, fifth high overall in placings, and fifth overall in reasons. They were the high team in placings, the high team in grading, the high team in questions, the second high team in reasons, and the high team overall.

Winning the National Western Stock Show is a huge accomplishment and honor. We are incredibly proud of this group of hard-working individuals and hope to continue participating in wool judging competitions.

This is also the first team that Rebecca Ruffi, a University of Wyoming student teacher, has had to coach. The team will be traveling to Rapid City to the Black Hills Stock Show to judge.
