WORLAND – Gloria Marcus, as well as 10 others, from the Nowood Improvement and Water Service District outside of Ten Sleep came to Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Washakie County Commissioners regarding the lack of a board for the district.
According to Marcus, the subdivision stumbled across this issue after receiving a notice from a resident of the subdivision, wanting to know if they wanted to opt out of being a service district and become a Homeowners Association.
“I called the courthouse to find out what was happening and found out that we had not held elections since 2017,” Marcus said.
The subdivision asked the commissioners if they could hold an election in order to re-elect a board. They were advised that they should hold elections, and that County Clerk Mary Grace Strauch could help them with that.

The commissioners were also approached by Dan Mattis, who asked permission to use the Washakie County Fairgrounds Aug. 17-21 for the annual Wyoming State Championship BBQ and Bluegrass Festival.
Mattis also presented his idea for the county to help build a permanent awning to avoid having to put up tents every year.
“I think it would be used year round by other groups, too,” Mattis said. He added that he currently has three companies bidding on it.
The commissioners did not make a decision regarding the awning.
