Ten Sleep school district ready to renovate Masonic Lodge

TEN SLEEP – At their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Feb. 14, Washakie County School Board District No. 2 announced that they would start accepting bids for renovations to the old Masonic Lodge in Ten Sleep.

The school board is looking to accept bids to remodel the building into a board room, complete with a couple of offices as well.

The board will be accepting bids for this after completing the process of getting specifications for an architect, according to WCSD No. 2 Superintendent, Jimmy Phelps.

Purchased by the school in 2016, the original plan for the Lodge was to tear it down for additional parking around the school. The school used the building as a weight room for some time.

OTHER BUSINESS

In other business, the school board had additional meetings with Arete Design Group – the company currently in charge of coming up with the design for the new Ten Sleep School. According to Phelps, the overall design team met with Arete for about five hours where they went over suggested changes in the floor plan.

Phelps added that he met with members of the legislature regarding funding for the new school. The Legislature has set aside $30,000,000 for the school in the budget bill. Work began this week on the budget.

“I’ve met with the legislature, and the governor and it turns out we have strong support,” Phelps said. “So I’m optimistic that we will be approved for construction.”

Also during the meeting, secondary math teacher Sarah Novak announced that she will be retiring at the end of the school year.
